Wargrave Sprint Triathlon-Sunday 18th June 2017

And we’re off at the Wargrave Sprint Triathlon 2017!

Last Sunday Meglio teamed up with the Wargrave Sprint Triathlon to help raise money for a local cause; with all proceeds going towards the creation of the Wargrave Lido, www.wargravelido.org. The sprint triathlon consisted of a 750m swim, 20K cycle and 5K run around the beautiful area of Wargrave in what a turned out to be a very memorable and special day for all involved.

Athletes and spectators alike gathered on Mill Green at the crack of dawn, ready for the first leg of the event. With the temperature up in the high twenties all week leading up to the race, the River Thames had been pleasantly heated for the athletes; almost as if the weather was expecting us.

The fastest of the bunch arrived out of the water in just over 13 minutes, before sprinting off to make their transition onto the bike. The chasing pack followed on a few minutes after and made their ascent up the hill towards the bikes.

After making a quick transition out of the wetsuit, it was time to jump on the bike and hit the road. The course took the riders around the quaint town of Wargrave, weaving through the streets. The fastest rider managed to clock through the gate at just under 30 minutes.

The final phase of the race saw a 5K run to the finish line. With the temperature rising and athletes energy draining towards the end of the race, we were expecting an exciting finish. The quickest time of the day went to a team effort, clocking in at 1:05:31.5 with the fastest individual coming home at 1:08:39.8. Our very own Meglio ambassador, Sophie Whitworth, crossed the line as the fastest individual female, clocking an impressive 1:15:35.9.

We’d like to say a massive congratulations to Hannah Young, the organisers and all the athletes that took part in this fantastic event.
