Meglio Conquer The Chilterns Triathlon

Last Sunday, Meglio teamed up with F3 Events to put on an epic Triathlon, set in the beautiful Hambleden Estate in Henley-on-Thames.

Athletes and spectators alike gathered together at the crack of dawn on what turned out to be a chilly Autumn morning. With water temperatures hovering around 13°C, wetsuits were a must for all athletes competing.

The Middle Distance athletes were first to take the plunge, entering the water just after 7:30am in the morning. They went on to complete a 1.9km swim before the second round of athletes took to the water.

First out of the water was our eventual overall, and relay winner in the Middle Distance category, James Waters, who lept out after exactly 26 minutes. The chasing pack followed on a few minutes afterwards and made their ascent towards the first transition area.

Our Olympic and Sprint Triathlon competitors followed on, completing a 1.5km and 750m swim respectively. Finally, our swimming contingent were last to enter the water, taking on a 1.5km and 3km all out river swim.

Following a quick transition out of the wetsuit, it was time to jump on the bike and tackle the hills of the Chiltern Valley. The course first took the riders along the flat towards Henley, before a quick turnaround in preparation for the Chiltern hills. This phase of the race included at least one trip up to the top of the hill; or three if you were completing the endurance Middle Distance event. George Eyles topped the charts in the Middle Distance category with a very impressive time of 2:10:55.

After a gruelling cycle, the athletes moved onto the final phase of the race; an epic run through the hills to the finish line. This leg of the race saw athletes take on between 5-21km, depending on their event. With the energy of the athletes draining towards the end of the race, a run up into the hills would be the last thing they wanted.

Our triathlon events finished with the athletes making a final sprint down the hill towards the finish line. Take a look at some of the fantastic images below and view our full gallery here.
